Don't quote me Isaiah 14:12. If you do the only thing it will prove is that you didn't read the entire chapter. Shoot back a few verses and God is merely taunting the human King of Babylon. God is saying mocking him because the king thought so highly of himself.

Is this one of those traditional doctrines that people cling to even though it is wrong?

Granted, it doesn't affect salvation or the gospel message... but man, shouldn't you know your enemy?

If it were true wouldn't he be named in the new testament as such? Heck, Jesus calls himself the morning star in Revelation:

Revelation 22:16
"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

I bring this up again because I see false doctrine being spread and I feel the need to squash it.

Lucifer is latin for light bearer. In Isaiah the word is helel and not lucifer. The authors of the latin vulgate thought lucifer sounded cool.

I guess if the reality of this truth got out then a lot of metal bands that pay tribute to lucifer will have to rethink things. Also the movies! I guess its better to perpetuate wrong thinking.

Lucifer was the devil's name before he decided to be a jerk. After all this time you'd think he wise up, but NOOOOOO. He still wants to be a jerk!!!

Sometimes people ask these questions to try to trip us up and are not real believers so I am glad that I read all of your details to see that you are a believer that is just searching for the truth. Listen and pray for knowlegde if you don't believe me: Our enemy has many names including Satan, the devil, the prince of this world (Jn 14:30), the snake in the Garden of Eden; and as you pointed out Lucifer, which was his name since being an angel before he was sent down to Earth as a punishment. Some things in certain books, including Daniel and Isaiah are not literal and some are both literal and spiritual. A clue is if it is not earthly possible then it may either be a prophecy or one of God's many hidden pieces of information. Remembering that Babylon is considered evil when you read Revelations in the new testament, Isaiah 14:12 says in the New International Version, "How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!"(NIV) Can a person pass on, go to heaven as a child of God, and then be cast down to the earth and live-?-NO. Will Jesus fall from Heaven-?-NO In my opinion this verse is both literal and spiritual; like you say the human kings of Babylon will fall, but Lucifer having had the names of morning star and son of dawn before trying to be more than God is now thrown upon this earth where he goes to and fro and will eventually be locked in Hell. One more thing to clear up: As an angel, Lucifer was called a morning star, but JESUS IS THE BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR*

You have hit it right on the head. Milton was the first to misinterpret the scriptures in Isaiah and Ezekiel, then lots of uneducated Christians started latching on. There is absolutely nothing in the scriptures (except when Jesus says that He saw the devil thrown to Earth like a flash of lighting) that would indicate that anything about this story is true. Lucifer simply means "morning star" in Latin, and its not even used there as a name. You are correct in saying that the verse in Isaiah is referring to the King of Babylon... and the verse in Ezekiel is referring to the King of Tyre.
Now there is such a thing as a prophecy carrying over into something bigger than what it is actually referring to. However, one of the rules of that type of prophecy is that the bigger part is fulfilled later, not at the beginning of time like this one.

You are right about Lucifer in this one, lucifer means light bearer in Latin. The Hebrew word used here means "shining one", and if you look at the context of the verses, it appears that he is talking to someone human.

Verse 14 (of Isaiah chapter 14) says of him (paraphrasing from the King James) that he will be brought down to hell, not a fiery torment hell. The Hebrew word used here is she'ohl, or Sheol --- defined as the common grave. It is the common grave of humans, not spirit creatures.

Verse 15 asks --- is this the MAN who has made the earth tremble and shake kingdoms. Who could fit such a description?

Verse 4 of that same chapter says this is a proverb against the king of Babylon, this "shining one" reasonably could be said to be the king(s) of the Babylonian world power who did indeed make nations tremble as they expanded their empire. Verse 13 speaks of him wanting to exalt himself, .

Lucifer as you know means bearer of light,God it seems passes His lights(knowledge) in a hierarchal way down thru the ranks of Angels and finally to us,and Lucifer was the Angel in the top position, we can also say that as a King is in the top position of importance then he is responsible for passing goodness and righteousness to those under him, failing to do this as God expects would put the king in the same category as Lucifer, one who has the gift but misuses it.

Great Question!
This has been my fundamental problem with Christianity. In nearly ever denomination I am familiar with, there is too much focus on the Devil. I am more convinced than ever that modern Christianity is a Dual-theism, 2 god religion, not the monotheism, one god, which it claims to be.
That is why, IMO, people refer to the Devil, by so many names, including Lucifer. This is the manner in which obedient Christians are taught to 'worship' the devil. Give him lots of names and blame him for all that may be bad in this world.
Although scriptures are available to everyone to read and interpret, many followers are also guided by ministers who are taught these 'devil worshiping' techniques, 'idle hands are the devil's workshop', 'the devil guided you into your sins', etc
this euphemism 'the devil made me do it' is so often used, it prevents people from identifying their OWN will and their own hesitation or inability to seek God's will and conform to that
So, IMO, Lucifer, Prince of Darkness, etc is just part of a 2-god version of Christianity, the worship of the devil is just as important as worship of God in order to establish drama, which is used to grab people's attention, and allow them to feel better about their shortcomings by providing a euphemism that shifts the blame from themselves to this second, evil god.

Because they're ignorants.

Lucifer was an Angel, his name means 'Light bearer'.

The 'Devil' was a more recent character made up by the Fathers of the Church to define anything evil; the truth is that in the Bible there's no mention of it whatsoever. The Bible tells about 'Satan', literally 'The Adversary' who has nothing to do with the later concept of Devil.

Lucifer is usually a fallen angel commonly associated with Satan, the embodiment of evil and enemy of God. Lucifer is generally considered, based on the influence of Christian literature and legend, to have been a prominent archangel in heaven (although some contexts say he was a cherub or a seraph), prior to having been motivated by pride to rebel against God. When the angel failed, Lucifer was cast out of heaven, along with a third of the heavenly host, and came to reside on the world.

Isn't Lucifer the 'Son of the Morning Star"? Also, doesn't Jesus say he fell from heaven like lightening?
