Whoever, abandoning sensual passions here,
would go forth from home--
his sensual passions, becomings,
totally gone:
he's what I call
a brahmin.

Whoever, abandoning craving here,
would go forth from home--
his cravings, becomings,
totally gone:
he's what I call
a brahmin.
-Dhammapada, 26, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

It seems to describe very morally intuned people but unfortunately, I come from a family of Brahmins, and the fact that Brahmins are Brahmins and know it, they relate it to family instead of morals and seem to think it's ok to act differently

Brahmin's were the class of people that were supposed to be the priests in the old days10.000 years ago. i think any one can know the goddess now.

their are many levels on the path, and one of the main levels is being born again. to a Hindu it is steeping on to the path and dedicating your spiritual life to finding the core of your being .

like all society's even the Hindus ,have a general population, that only cares for material things and mindlessly go to temples because they are suppose to.then there are the seekers.that want to rip apart the universe to see and experience all it inner workings

so in conclusion.being a Brahman is a [old concept] and in 2007,we are all seekers.

Totally dead-on definition of brahmins according to the Vedas and the Manusmriti, but not the definition I'd use for most brahmins today.
