of living to compete with those are are in our country ill*egal*ly?
I was told on here by someone that Americans should lower their wages and standard of living to compete with ill*eg*als.
Do you agree with this?
Do you think it is right?

Anti---first off...I make more than $5 an hour. I am salary.
No I wouldn't work for $5 an hour. I went/go to school to make sure that I am educated enough to not work with "those" people. They never could...never will be able to take my job.
Unlike SOME people, I look out for my fellow Americans. They are my priority.
So...whatever!!

And another thing...if the day comes that I would have to work for $5 an hour...I would straight up go on welfare...I have paid enough into it! So...don't ever look to see me working along side of "those" people!

Nope. Particularly when it is the education, social services, and our funded retirement plan (social security) that WE fund that is used as incentive to bring in the illegal workers. They are charging us to pay to undermine our wages, ruin our schools and drain our social services funds.
It is called 'leveraging' and corporations do it, but if they do it with employee funded plans they get into trouble.

See, there are some major flaws in thinking that lowering our wages, or becoming poorer will lower the need of illegal immigration. The problem isn't with us expecting too much money, or even illegal immigrants working for to little money. The problem si with a few americans that aren't happy enough by living in the upper middle class, and wish to make even more money by undercutting their costs. The divide between the rich and poor have only deeped in the last few years in america... meaning that most of us have already lowered our standard, and yet it's not enough. It will never be enough.
Honestly how can we expect an incredibly poor person with no language skills and little education even in their own language to understand make sound desisions for the betterment of me? It's not the fault of some 40 year old mexican man that he was offered a job in america making 3 bucks an hour- he saw his chance and took it. The problem is that we all yell at him (as though he'll understand us) as we buy the products that he produces at walmart because they're a whole 10 cents cheaper than at the grocery store.
History will remember this as the time america was sold to the rich for pennies on the dollar.

No, we have lowered our standards enough by adapting our society to their presence.
Unskilled labor is cheap because employers take the time and
expense to train people to do the jobs they need done.
Obviously if the only skills I had to offer the American workplace were the same skills of an uneducated, illiterate, non-English speaking, never saw electricity, toilet paper or running water illegal alien, I'd be worth only $5.00 an hour (actually I'd be worth less).
I don't know why people seem to want to argue that these criminals are worth more $. If they had any marketable skills wouldn't they find work in their homeland?
I am overqualified to compete with an illegal as are most Americans.
People need to stop wasting their time defending criminal behavior.Since when can we pick and choose which laws we want to obey? Isn't part of being an American recognizing our legal responsibilies?
If people are soooo moved by the plight of these illegals maybe they should sign their name to the sponsorship application.
Deport all illegals and their anchor babies upon detection.

To directly address the text of the details, NO!
That said however, many here, illegally, are here because the USA has always been touted as "The land of Plenty",,, Streets paved with Gold might have even been an archaic term describing this country.
Consider this, without detailing the WHY of it. Would you assume a citizen of the USA earning minimum wage, (Approx. $5.85 per hour) netting perhaps $4 per hour of that, might already be living in sub standard situations? That would especially be true of anyone trying to support one other with that wage, or more meagerly, a family. Could we ask them to "Lower" that standard?
Greed is the engine that drives so much of this economy, and isn't likely to fade anytime soon. I can't agree that those with more should give it up, simply to balance what might seem a point of anger in those with less.
Part of the situation you allude to is that as Citizens, many of us already have lowered our standards simply because illegals will take jobs so many of us won't IE: Not many USA citizens will willingly do migrant farm work for the wages that an illegal gladly accepts.

Hell no it's not right. We don't owe them anything. They are volunteer slaves basically. America needs to quit contributing to criminals, and just hike up some pay in order to have American workers do the jobs the illegals are doing. I mean what rights do they have to march in our streets demanding rights that they aren't entitled to? None. They are not Americans, and not citizens of this country. We don't need to make anything convenient for them, we dont need to cater to them. They don't belong here until they can follow the correct procedures to be here. Just think, if they did that then they could make the wages Americans do. Ever think about that one ANTI? What Justfication is there for not becoming a legal citizen? They try so hard to get here, why not put as much effort into becoming a legal citizen as they do sneaking in. It's like when you were a kid and you saved up your allowance to buy a toy. It meant so much more to you, than if someone bought the same toy for you, because you earned it. Try earning citizenship, it will be worth it.

No I don't agree and I don't think its right. Its amazing, they are all for increasing the minimum wage because people wont work low wage jobs.First of all minimum wage jobs aren't there to support a family on,they are more directed for students or for elderly for supplemental income.I cant remember the last time I worked a minimum wage job,I am a divorced mother that didn't receive child support.I managed to put myself through two business schools and support both of my children with a 3 month help from welfare. If I can put myself through school with 2 children to obtain a better education for a better paying job..,then anyone can do it.Its called hard work.

If it included free medical care, free Medicaid and medicare and free food stamps. It doesn't sound like that bad of a package. I had to go the DR, just last two weeks ago, it cost me over $ 500. I do like the discounts offered for illegal aliens. I wouldn't mind paying no taxes, etc, etc.I SURE COULD USE THOSE DISCOUNTS.

Americans consume 1/3 of the worlds resources yet they don't make up anywhere near 1/3 the population. We have people with extreme wealth. If we could lessen our consumption and spread our wealth more evenly this would improve the lives of many. Lowering our standard of living is relative to how high it is.
Of course this is a pipe dream and would never happen, our greed is to strong.

NEVER! What I think is that Yahoo Answers should sent all these reply s to our gutless ,greedy congress (Rep.&Demo.s)&Pres. and the media and to force them to read what tax-paying citizens really want for our country. WE want them to do what they were elected to do for once ,REPRESENT US!We want to improve our wages and standards not lower them.We want the laws enforced and the illegal flow across the border stopped,.Sent the illegals back.PUT AMERICA FIRST!

outstanding submit. each little thing the college instructor suggested is fairly authentic. What substitute into not suggested is the incredibly value to the taxpayer of this largess to the undocumented. it incredibly is a minimum of $a hundred thirty five billion and in all threat closer to $4 hundred billion in keeping with annum. The irony is employers in mixture shop no greater advantageous than $one hundred billion by hiring unlawful immigrants. awaken u.s.
