Go to the IRS website and they are a number of free Internet sites that are recommended by the government to complete your taxes. You can fill out all of the information and it will tell you how much you owe or get back. You don't pay for filing fee until you complete the return. With the amount of money you made last year, I believe that their are some sites that will do it for free. Check out the website and it will give you an idea.

I know you probably want a $ amount from me, but I really don't know. I do know that if you go to Turbo tax.com you can put all your info in with out actually filing. I did it before I did my taxes so i could compare what I got on line to what I got at H and R block. Good luck! I would imagine you would get back around $800 if not a little more.

If you receive a W-2 for $38,000 and have no other income and claim the standard deduction, you'll end up owing about $500 to the IRS.

If you receive a W-2 for $36,000, you'll still end up owing around $250.

From what you have listed and as long as you don't have additional deductions you will probably break even. The best way to check is to file your return. You could mock up at TurboTax and see. I do this every year. You don't pay for their service until you want to print/file your taxes. It is a great way to estimate your refund/payment amount.

If you mean that you're filing single with no dependents, only yourself as an exemption,at $38K income you'd owe about $500, at $36K income you'd owe a couple hundred.

You'll have to fill out the tax forms to know. "About" and "around" don't cut it.
