You should be wary of Microsoft marketing and ask yourself how, really, it will improve your life.

as others have said there are inevitably going to be teething troubble. one person complaining that he had a problem with the media he downloaded. did he actually back up his DRM folders?
did he manage to give his computer the exact same name as it had been when the media wasoriginally downloaded? if NO to any or all of those then of course he was going to have problems as the DRM software did not recnize the legality of his computer system.
as for VISTA, save your self a bundle when buying the ultimate version, and buy the OEM, ok you do not get the full microsoft technical support via email or telephone (you as the OEM are expected to solve the prtoblems), however if you buy the ultimate OEM from dabs.com with a 250GB hard drive you will save around £70 on the upgrade price of the listed ultimate version!
(you need to buy hardware to qualify for the OEM)
Possitives are few as far as i saw from the beta testing i did. The only difference of note was the graphics on vista were more advanced than on XP and it had a few additional programs built in that currently you have to buy as extras.
windows aeor for the glass effect grapics requires a radeon 9550 or compatible GPU as a bare minimum. and to get the best from vista you need not less than an AMDsempron 3400 with 2GB RAM as a bare minimum for medium results, (software the microsoft site rates as a 3 in other words windows store where you see a 3 or below and your computer will run it without a problem. for best results you need a very powerful computer, so those who generally only chat online or do a little word processing should stick to windows xp or their current operating system. if you are in to gaming then you may want to consider the windows vista mid range package or home/basic
for business only then use the business version, but if you want the best of home and work then you want the ultimate version.
if your CPU supports 64 bit operating systems then buy 64 bit version or your system will be slow and sluggish.
just my opinion based on the test of windows vista ultimate last year.
you should be warry of not buying the genuine software, the downlaods that are being offered in spam emails are riddled with maleware that is hard to clean or so i've heard.
the ultimate version comes on a DVD not a standard CD so if you do not have a dvd drive inyour computer then you are going to have to buy a dvd drive when you buy your copy of vista.
though personally i will be waiting a year or so before i consider buying.
good luck and remember buy from a reputable source if you realy want to buy this.
though now it has been made general release i guess you may be able to download a free trial of vista befopre you buy. if so make sure to burn it to a new drive and not on your current operating system master drive or you may regret it.

nothing. I was on the beta testing team and we literally worked out "the Bugs" this time around. Excellent OS. completely stable and very easy to work with. The only downside, to get the aero GUI, you'll have to spend a little more. no biggie though. Vista is made for all computer types, that's why there's a few different versions.

Absolutely no. VISTA IS A DOWNGRADE!!!!! Vista is Microsoft's attempt at complete control of all Premium Content. If you attempt to use any open source or non compliant software or hardware Vista can simply disallow driver function. Media addicts beware!!!! Think you legally purchased a song or movie, think again. With Vista you may have to re-purchase it in 6 months. All the new security they talk about is not for consumer security, but security for Premium Content. Try to create a back up copy of your favorite software or media and you'll see what I'm talking about. VISTA IS A DOWNGRADE!!!!!

Download Windows Vista Advisor & it will tell you all about compatability with your Comp. Ive just done it & it frightened the life out of me. Just 1 item out of many is that Iv`e to unstall my security (McAfee) and I wont be able to re install it, and it goes on & on. I have Windows XP 1 year old.
This was the Vista Home Basic

One word, COMPATIBILITY!!!
It is a good enough OS and it does have tons of functionality, but at the moment finding programs for it is very hard to find compatible programs.
I think that will sort itself out soon when software producers realise they need to make things vista compatible, I am using it at the moment and loving it though!

did gates do it? then its going to be buggy, expensive and still have the blue screen of death...
buy LINUX xp 07..far better, hundreds of pounds cheaper, with better support and almost all the software is free, and it works straight out of the box..average time to install, TEN minutes and youre working...
also incredibly handy if as usual windows decides it know better and crashes your system.. Linux Xp sees everything, and can access all office type documents and files...
gates screwed me when i bought ME..and im forked if im ever going to give the four eyed git another penny of my hard earned.
