Having a best friend in Harrogate - I would say a definate NO it's not had it's day - It's always busy, you guarantee a good cup of tea - The shortbread buscuits are the best and it's nowhere near what it costs at Costa or Starbucks

There will always be ladies who lunch or take afternoon tea, especially in Harrogate and York. Last time I was there, in the York one, I felt a little underdressed though! The ladies were definitely of the twin set and pearls genre. Nice to be able to choose from such a wide range of teas and coffees though.

Only if the population of England becomes more boorish in its outlook. Betty's in both Harrogate and York are oases of dignified, genteel refreshment. Long may they continue to exist. Who wants a world consisting solely of Starbucks and MacDonalds, with their plastic cups and plastic offerings?

What about the Ilkley one?

Additional:

I like Bettys. Its like a time machine. It gives you an idea how much a cake will cost in the year 2050

Never-never-never!

As long as there is a W.I. and a church fete some where, there will be Betty's

Of course we still have to keep going in York,Harrogate and Ilkley;or crass commercialism will take it away

I hope Betty's lasts forever. It has been a long time since I was last there. Do they still make "Old Peculier" cake?
