I made a verbal agreement with NTL (Telewest where you and I live) but the Agreement mentioned a connection fee of 6p for each call from a Telewest line, plus the cost of the call made. Never, when I was on the phone to the salesman was this mentioned and I returned the Contact unsigned, effectively stopping them from going any further. However, I got a letter telling me that their engineers were attending on a given date and that they would require access. It gets worse. Telewest made arrangements with BT to take over my land-line and BT could not accept my word until two days before the transfer date that I did not want Telewest. I won the day though! Going to Vodaphone on their New Contract. See elsewhere for the details.

Have you looked at Pipex Homecall? My partner and I are with this company and we're very happy. For £30 a month we get 8MB Broadband (it is currently running at around 6MB while we wait for the new exchanges to be up and running), landline rental (not payable to BT) and free landline calls 24/7. The only calls we pay for are 0845, 0870 and premium rate numbers, such as 090 numbers. Customer services are very good too, and they speak good English too. You have to have a BT landline installed, but you don't pay for BT services.

We think we're getting a good deal and it represents value for money.
