There is alot of wind mills over here to convert the wind power to energy.
There is some hydroelectric dams also. Just look up Ardnacrusha in Co. Clare.
Alot of this energy making equipment for the normal person is still quite expensive to install, so as usual things like this boils down to money.
Until the government here sees this as a profit making business, it will be a slow process to be more environmently friendly place.
It is like the rail network here, Iaranroid Eireann's saying, We're not there yet, but we're getting there!

Oh, I have a better idea. Why not build a tower to the Sun so we can tap solar energy directly. Huh? Why is the government keeping it secret that we could do that and solve all our problems? Huh? Stupid lazy greedy government people!
