Whats the difference between Darvocet and Hydrocodone? How do they compare? Which is better? I've been taking hydrocodone would it be wise to switch?

Both Darvocet and Hydrocodone are opiate analgesics. Darvocet contains propoxyphene, which is less likely to cause physical dependence than hydrocodone. Of course, hydrocodone {which is the active ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab} is more potent than Darvocet, and better at providing pain relief. The decision to switch from hydrocodone to Darvocet should be made between you and your attending physician; taking in account if it would be appropriate for you to switch to a less potent medication to manage your pain. If the case is that you aren't getting adequate relief from hydrocodone, then you'll probably have to switch to a larger dosage of your current medication or to another, more potent analgesic like Percocet {oxycodone}, MS-Contin {morphine sulfate continuous release}, or Demerol {meperidine}.

I have taken both before and I have found Hydrocodone better but become immune to it just like any other drug. Which ever works best for your pain control is best for you. When youve been on either drug long term, you need more and more becuase your body builds up a tolerance to the drug. Whatever the problem always work with your doctor to help you. Good luck.
