He is doing terrific!!! He is learning and there is always trial and error with everything that is new to us. I would put a pull up on him at nite only...then venture back to underwear when he gets better at not wetting himself at nite....just check his pull up every morning; when it's dry for more than a week every morning than put back in underwear. Plus, get a rubber sheet for his mattress to prevent the mattress from getting ruined...Walmart has these rubber sheets in the bedding dept. for about $3-15.

Its all part of the process. He still has to know when that feeling comes. In time, he will awaken due to the urge to go potty. Its just gonna take a while. Have you also woken him up just before you go to bed, to try going potty also???
Till then, make sure you have the rubber sheets as they are called, or heres an idea that I did with my sons. Get 2, 30 gallon trash bags, pull one over the top & one over the foot of the mattress, so they meet in the middle. Then duct tape them together. Put the sheet over it.This will protect the mattress. And use the nighttime pullups.
It will take a little while for it to happen, but when hes had 2 or 3 nights dry, then try the reg. undies again.
Tell your big boy, how proud you are of what he has accomplished so far, and dont sweat the small stuff!!! Take care!

Invest in pull-ups. My son wet the bed...EVERY NIGHT...until he was 6 years old. He's the kind of kid who could sleep through the 80 dB house alarm. (this actually happened) so his ability to wake-up to go to the bathroom was non-existent.
Children who wet the bed (especially boys) also suffer from a chemical immaturity. Their brains do not release a chemical that says "You're asleep, stop making so much urine" This is why he continues to go even though he's asleep. He is probably making urine at the same rate as when he's awake.
He'll most likely grow out of it. Behavior modification in this area can help if he doesn't have one of the above problems. If he does, no amount of changes you make will make it stop. (I think I tried them all) My son is 8 now. He only has an accident once every 2 weeks or so. So there is hope.

Nightime potty training takes the longest. I would use the pull-ups at night so that if he happens to wake up he can still go to the bathroom, but if he doesn't wake up and wets his pants it won't wet the bed. Children sleep so soundly that they just don't wake up when they have the urge to potty. During the day, it's easier since they recognize the feeling of having to "go", but at night they just sleep right through. Be patient, use the pull-ups and within a year he'll hold it through the night. Give him a big hug and help him through this so he won't get discouraged. Good Luck!

Put a diaper or pull up on him at night. Two and a half is young for a boy to be potty trained. A lot of children are not dry at night until much older.

I am in the same boat. I decided to work on the daytime training till he gets that down pat, then take on nighttime. We still use diapers at night. My son sleeps 8-10 hours a night, and his little bladder is a little young to be holding the urine that long.
