It comes down to this: anything is better than nothing. If you aren't into jogging, but have no problem going out for a walk, then walking is great. You can pick up your pace and still get a great exercise session - often times a faster walk is just as good as a slower jog.
The best way to get into a routine if it's new to you is to ease into it. Start off walking, picking up speed every few days, and soon you'll find jogging to be no problem. And as time goes by you may even be able to discover the joys of running. (I know it doesn't sound like any fun, and I definitely never saw myself as a runner, but now that I've started to help motivate my fiance I am discovering it's not so bad.)
And to address the problem of pounding on the pavement, I find that running on grass or a trail instead of the road is not only safer, but easier on the legs.

There are so many different theries about jogging vs. walking, it's hard to say for sure. I've always thought that jogging is hard on your joints etc because of the "pounding" of the pavement. I think with exercise the important thing is to try all different exercises and see which makes you feel the best. Also, speed walking would raise your heart rate without all of the jarring motions as jogging. Most importantly, don't push your body too hard!

Depends on several factors. What is your current fitness level? Walking is always the best way to start. But you need to walk faster than normal if you want to achieve fitness. Walking is also what is known as low impact, less stressful on the body. Jogging or running is more intense and works your body harder and can give you a greater level of fitness. Or some people combine the two, running for a bit and then walking to help increase the time they can spend exercising. I guess it is a personal choice.

As said by many, it depends on what you want, and how you do it.
Walking is good to start with.
If you walk at a brisk pace, and MOVING strongly your arms in a sporty fashion as you give each pace, your heart rate is bound to go up soon. (moving them as you usually do, but With more stamina and with a larger swinging motion).
Take a pulse meter and see the results.
Jogging will demand more muscle activity, thus burning more calories but demanding more of your whole body, including joints.
Choose good shoes and a soft course if you can, to soften the impact on your bones and joints.
It is far better to walk briskly and sportingly as recommended above for 4 days a week than to jog for two days. Many times people get to tired and worned jogging that recuperation takes more time (days), so walking vigorously more often a week is far better.
Again check it out with a pulsometer.
Also walking as recommended will enable you to do for bigger distances, more time or harder terrain (climbs, hills, etc.).
It is more a matter of personal taste and results.
With dedication both forms of exercise will get you fit and trim!
Maybe you can jog a day or two, and walk another couple of days.
Good luck

it depends on what you're trying to accomplish? You trying to get away from someone, joggin maybe the better option...just kiddin. But if you're planning on losing weight, then neither will help you out.
Why? That's simple. Any form of cardio requires at least 40 minutes of continous movement to tell your body to start burning fat. You do it for anything less and all you're going to end up doing is sweating, a week later you go onto the scale and WOW I lost some weight. No you didn't, all you lost was the water in your body that you lost thru sweat. A week later if you weigh yourself you'll find that you put it back on...as if by magic.
Losing weight is simple, it's not even rocket science or expensive. All you have to do is eat (sound contradictory?) well it's true. Eating smaller meals during small intervals let's your body work by itself and speed up your own metabolism. Try it for a month. Just eat a small meal, 2hours later have something to snack on (not junk or food loaded with calories) then 2hours later have something small to eat (and by small I don't mean 1 potatoe)
I hope everything works out for the best for you.

Either, depending on how you are doing it.
Wether you walk or jog, make sure you tire out after exercises. If you keep walking or jogging the same distance, your body eventually gets used and gets adapted so that it doesnt work anymore. So keep incresing the distance.
A good way to exercise though, is to start by walking and then graduate to jogging. Reason above

It generally better to jog I think - simply because you get the same exercise done faster. for instance you burn the same amount of calories walking a mile as you do runni a mile - but obvioulsy joggin is faster - so you can get more exercise in your 30 (for example) time wndow.
In some cases it can be better to walk though - such as if some one is in very poor shape - to go straight to joggin from no exercise could do more hamr than good - and also it can cause damage to joints.
