Dharma means your actions in this life. Religion means the way or path of life. Both should be related otherwise man will end up in things like AIDS, Nuclear Bombs, Terrorism etc which will eventually kill the whole of mankind.
Man needs to be controlled in every aspect of his life. Even when he is walking on a road side or using the wash room or in any where in his normal life, man needs to be controlled. The best control is from his ownself. His own mind should control his behaviour. This can be done only in the Name of God & Religion. If you leave him on his own, he will end in things like AIDS HIV, Nuclear Bombs etc. He will perish on his own. Finally whether he is rich or poor, if he is white or black, whatever he is, he can live in Peace of Mind only by Total Submission of himself to the Will of Almighty God. This can be done by controlling himself. One man cant control another, This has to be done by Almighty God. That is achieved by the Holy Books & Messengers from God. These have showed us the ways to control ourselves & live in peace. Why do we have brakes in all the automobiles. To control the vehicle we need them.
Same applicable for man also.

Dharma means inherent characteristic property or speciality of a thing/substance/person,it can not be changed according to time ,place and person. It is constant.Like dharma or property of oxygen(element) is to help in burning.Like dharma of fire is to burn.dharma of water(compound) is to move downwards.dharma of animals is the same and dharma of all plants is the same. And dharma of all human beings is the same.
But religion is faith/belief acquired subsequently, can be changed.
Like Hindu religion ,not Dharma ,Muslim,Christian,Parsi.Sikh etc
are individual faith which can be changed or changable/adoptable So what is the dharma or unchangable characteristics of human beings? To get anything more and more...more....more...more...how much? unlimited or our want is INFINITE.This property or characteristics are the same to all Human Beings. Is nt it?so we all are of same character or dharma that is Manab Dharma.

Dharma is what you live for. Dharma is the love of your inner self. Dharma is your belief.
Religion is the sect of principles/ God that one follows for righteous living. If you deeply probe - you will not find any difference between the two,

Dharma is a conduct endowed upon us by the almighty. Religion is the study of dharma and a set of rules to perform our dharma with respect to our capabilities.
For example a doctors dharma is to cure his patients, be it his enemy; a warriors dharma is to protect anyone that asks for help even if he is the warrior's enemy, a pandits dharma is to perform rituals, a teachers dharma is to teach.
While a religion tells you how to be ethical and organised. It tells you how to live a healthy and hygenic life in harmony with nature. Religion doesnot tell you to visit temples, churches or mosques. It tells you to remember that there's always someone watching you. So be careful with your acts. The religious rituals are wrongly interprated in today's world and we are struggling to prove other person's religion wrong. However our dharma tells us not to worry about these external affairs and keep performing our duties. Your acts are your karma. Good Karma can lead you to a content life while bad karma can lead to a most unwanting death one could ever wish for. A person with good karmas has no worries at his death bed. He is content with himself cos his conducts were good and in harmony with the almighty's creations. While a person with bad karmas is always discontent. He keeps praying to God to forgive him for his wrong doings. he is never content with himself.
