I'm seriously curious as to why the latter has a greater importance in God's plan according to the Koran. If God is supreme and the single diety, why does Muhammad get so much attention?

(My intent is not to insult but to understand).

Well, you could look at it like this, for the same reason Christians place more reverance on Jesus than on Abraham (peace and blessings on them both). Muhammad (saws) was the most recent Prophet in Islam, and since we have lost so many teachings of Jesus (saws) it only makes sense that we follow Muhammad's (saws) teachings. We place no one over God, and even prophets don't come close. Muhammad was just His messenger after all, as it was God's message. Jesus (saws) is still highly revered and respected by Muslims.

Because he is the last Prophet and the final Book of God, the Qur'an, was revealed to him.

But, even then, Muslims aren't supposed to.

The following are from the Sahih Bukhari:

Volume 9, Book 83, Number 51:

Narrated Abu Said:

The Prophet said, "Do not prefer some prophets to others."

Volume 9, Book 83, Number 52:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

A Jew whose face had been slapped (by someone), came to the Prophet and said, "O Muhammad! A man from your Ansari companions slapped me. " The Prophet said, "Call him". They called him and the Prophet asked him, "Why did you slap his face?" He said, "O Allah's Apostle! While I was passing by the Jews, I heard him saying, 'By Him Who chose Moses above all the human beings.' I said (protestingly), 'Even above Muhammad?' So I became furious and slapped him." The Prophet said, "Do not give me preference to other prophets, for the people will become unconscious on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first to gain conscious, and behold, I will Find Moses holding one of the pillars of the Throne (of Allah). Then I will not know whether he has become conscious before me or he has been exempted because of his unconsciousness at the mountain (during his worldly life) which he received."

There are a number of prophets in the Bible, and it's the same reason they're not as important as Jesus in Christianity. Muhammad was the key founding voice.

because God made him the last prophet ,no prophet will ever come again with new religion.as it had been happening before prophet Mohammad (P B U H ).islam is the final religion chosen for humans by GOD.though JESUS (PBUH) WILL COME AGAIN and will preach the same religion islam as was done by prophet Mohammad.God has given the highest rank to prophet Mohammad among all other prophets.if you read about him thoroughly only then you can understand why.his personality was perfect and complete in all respects.he suffered too much ,more than any other prophet ever.the list goes on and on.thats why we muslims love him more than any other prophet.but we respect and love all other prophets including Jesus AND Mosses .

I'll put it the way I understand it. Muhammad (pbuh) delivered Islam to us-hence making him the leader of us Muslims.

I guess it would be the same for example for any Christians-although the bible mentions other prophets Jesus was the the one who delievered the message of Christianity to his people.

I hope that answers ya question.

Post edited to add: to the dude who has compared the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to God, please don't. God is God, the Prophets were his messangers.

Muhammad (pbuh) was the final Prophet of God
He is the most beloved creation of God.
The Qu'raan was revealed to Muhammad (pbuh)
The perfect religion of Islam was revealed to Muhammad (pbuh).

If a parent chooses to love one child more than the other, that is the parents prerogative. If an inventor chooses an invention as his "favourite", that is the inventor's prerogative.

It is God's prerogative to love whomsoever He wills.
Muhammad (pbuh) was chosen by God.
And God knows best!

Because in the Quran it was stated that Mohammed is the seal of the prophets, he was the last prophet with the final message which completed all messages that were sent by God..therefore, we rely on him..
and Mohammed (PBUH) stated that himself as well ... of course that kind of information was told to him by Gabriel with the permission of God..

hi, in islam we belive in all prophets, Quran says that Muhammed is the last,so we don't belive that someone else will come, but we belive in all prophets from Adam to Muhammed, and we don't prefer any of them because they all are the same, but islam is about Muhammed life, how he live, how he learnt others, how this religen develops,...etd. like any other religin for example christiance belive in Jesus and they know that there was Abraham but they don't say in there religien much about him( like about Jesus, )

They might ask you why, assuming you're a Christian, you put Jesus on the same level as God when God clearly says not to have any other gods besides him.
