I would want a piece of the action: that way, I could retire early, instead of being retired for pies !

No. Money is a human invention and it is really the only thing that separates from the animals if you think about it. A cow and/or other animals are happy just to be, eat, sleep, and reproduce. The word 'profit' as we know it does not exist in the minds of animals. This is why they say money is the root of evil, because humans cannot escape it unless you're enlightened, of course.

First find a goat or cow that uses money and then we'll worry about this.
You could argue the animals do benefit from the profits indirectly. Let's say the farmer does sell the milk and profits and this keeps the farm going and the animals well fed and cared for. However, if the farmer doesn't sell the milk, the animals might just find themselves converted into steaks, hamburger, goat curry or a nice cabrito barbecue.

Cows/goats are employees of the milk industry. They certainly contribute to the final product, but they are paid for their efforts through food, housing, health care, etc., just like any other employee.

i'm sure that if i was a cow and i was living a happy cowy life i would probably appreciate the fact that the farmer was relieving me of the weight of the milk in the first place. it must get awfully uncomfortable.

Not really. I have no use for my milk as I prefer eating grass and drinking water! Also my udders get super sore if i'm not milked regularly.
