At home I split the weinie and fry in a little butter. I prefer spicy mustard, relish, raw onions, and a little ketchup or sauerkraut; here are some regional ways I found:

Chicago dogs :yellow mustard, dark green relish, chopped raw onions, tomato slices, celery salt and a poppy seed bun

Kansas City dogs :sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese on a sesame seed bun

New York City dogs :steamed onions and pale yellow mustard sauce

Coney Island dogs: topped with a spicy meat mixture

Southern slaw: dogs with coleslaw

Corn dogs: placed on a stick, dipped in corn bread batter and deep-fried

Tex-Mex dogs: salsa, Monterey Jack cheese and chopped jalapenos

Baltimore Frizzled: split and deep-fried

Damn! It's 9am and I want a freakin' weinie!

Until I moved to the south I either got kechup, mustard, relish and onion or kraut, onion and mustard. Or just chili and mustard and onion. I have tried the slaw and chili and it is awesome i just add mustard and onion to it as well. The same is good on burgers too.

Well, as others have pointed out, both.
What needs to be selected is the mustard...
Of course, Americans may have 'created' the hot dog...
But here in Oz, we make a mean meat pie, dog, and burger.
Hmmm... mustard. French, terrible, crap, and ENGLISH mustard... now that'll clean your sinuses.

Hot Dogs call for a good, spicy mustard. Sauerkraut is better then slaw, on my dogs, and add in some good pickle relish. I'll have two please.
