You do need to file a CT tax return. You will file as a Non Resident and only report income earned in CT. Do not report anything else like interest, sale of stock, etc....even if it helps your CT tax return. Unfortunately, you will also have to report your CT earnings (and all worldwide earnings) on your NC return...but to avoid being taxed twice on the same income, NC will give you a tax credit for whatever tax you paid to CT on income also taxed by NC. Any good software program will walk you right through this.

Even though you didn't ask, if this is a temporary job and if you have out-of-pocket expenses (lodging, travel, food) related to the temporary job for which you are not reimbursed (or, if you are reimbursed, the reimbursement is reported as taxable income), you can write it off as "unreimbursed employee expense subject to 2% of AGI" on your federal tax return. This can be substantial, so if you're not sure, you may want to get your return done with a tax professional.

Hope this answers your question.
