He or she has been around for several decades because I remember the work 20 years ago. The artwork has a very sensual feeling to it and the flowers tend to resemble the female anatomy.

You are thinking about Georgia Okeeffe. I believe she died in the 1990's at the ripe old age of ninety something. She was married to the famous photographer Alfred Stieglitz. She lived in NY and New Mexico. She also enjoyed painting bones and the desert. She started out as an art teacher and taught for a short time at Columbia College in Columbia, SC. Alfred was much older than she and promoted her career in New York. Benita Eisler wrote an interesting book on the pair titled "Okeeffe & Stieglitz". Okeeffe was the subject of many of Stieglitz's photographs.
