ice cream sold in supermarkets is now kept in palstic containers. aside from palstic being cheaper, is there any other advantage of using plastic over tin containers?

I believe metal/tin would keep the ice cream cold longer. Plastic is possibly lighter than a tin or metal container of the same size. Dairy products stay fresh longer out of the light-tin better there too.

Its the same reason as why you should never leave a metal spoon in food for a long period of time. It slowly starts to poison it. Whether or not this causes us any harm I don't know but from doing health and hygiene courses on food that is what they say.
