Yeah there are a lot of transatlantic cruises but most of them go into NY--few are going to go down through Panama Canal and stop in Cali. You could do 2 back to back cruises, once transatlantic and one Panama Canal. That way you'd get to experience 2 different ships and would be able to have a week traveling from NY to Florida, and be able to see a lot of the US, with hotels that will do laundry for you. But the majority of those from California only do the Mexican Riveria or Hawaii. I've never seen any that went farther than that from RC or Carnival. Definitely check into a world cruise.

If you want to sail from the uk to America you may well have to do a world cruise sector with someone like P&O or Cunard have a look on there websites for more info. Its not a usual route that the ships do unless its part of thier world cruise and u may be restricted to jan feb march as thats when the worls cruises go.
