Buying individual health insurance can get pretty complicated as we get older for a variety of reasons. Couple of approaches you might want to consider:
1. Shop online. In California the site I prefer is Insurance Neighborhood (http://www.InsuranceNeighborhood.com ). Outside of California there's www.QuickQuote.com or eHealthinsurance.
2. Find an Independent Agent. Even better, talk to an agent who focuses on individual health insurance. A local, qualified agent will know the health plans available in your community and has the expertise to help you zero in on the two or three that will work best for you. A good agent can save you money; a bad one can waste your money.
Insurance Neighborhood requires agents in their network to sign a service commitment, get letters of recommendation, and the like. But again, they're only available in California for now. You can also find good agents from their national trade association. Just go to http://www.NAHU.org, click on the Consumer Information tab and the click on the "Find an Agent" link.
When selecting an agent, you may want to make sure they represent multiple health plans, have experience working with clients in situations similar to yours, and can give you references to a few of their other clients.
There's definitely good and affordable health insurance policies for folks in their 60s. So good hunting.

I think your best bet is to use one of the free online services that will get you competitive quotes from several insurance providers. Then you can choose the one that's best for you. You can usually get at least three quotes from different companies by filling in one simple online form.
