My mother was adopted ,,she`s been dead now 10 years and I have done genealogy work and found out about her family. I found that she had 7 siblings and so far I have found that at least 3 died from lung cancer & my Mother died from bone cancer and her mother died from stomach cancer that spread to the brain.. What does this mean for my health ?.. I have been diagnosed chronic bronchitis and have had pnuemonia twice. Is all this hereditary ?

Some women inherit genes from their parents that are more resistant to damage and cancer than others. Those whose genes do not provide as much protection against cancer are said to be genetically susceptible to the disease. Scientists have shown that some cancers (i.e., breast cancer) involve genes that are passed down from parents to their children, and the link between such genetic mutations and lung cancer is also becoming more probable. But the link to heredity has not been absolutely confirmed in lung cancer.

My suggestions are don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, and get regular check-ups...

Lo_mcg has a good answer. To add a number of ideas: 1) each person does now not have a cancer cellphone in them, and each person does not have a cancer gene. We all have genes that can go bad at any factor, though. A few of us, maybe 10%, are born with one already dangerous, so our chances of getting melanoma increase vastly. 2) Most lung melanoma "households" have anything more than genes in long-established- it's smoking. Quitting doesn't lower your danger to zero unfortunately. 2d-hand smoke is an hassle as well that can give an explanation for non-smoking lung melanoma sufferers. Benefits

It means that you should let your doctor know what you have found out. There is a very high chance you may get some kind of cancer. So that when you get sick and go in, he knows the history and can check for this instead of trying to guess about it. There is NO telling that you will actually get cancer, just the chances are higher than the average person. I'v got the same problem.

Reviewing your genealogy, it might be. But also check the quality of air you breathe (as well as your family's). Your chronic bronchitis and two cases of pneumonia suggests you really need to take care of your lungs. It's not yet too late to start taking care of your health ;D
