I find it much easier to understand when I pray before and after reading. I feel that God has opened my mind and my heart after a prayer to understand as He wants me to.

The Bible is like a beautiful puzzle, if you have all the right pieces. Satan, the father of the lie, has put in pieces that don’t belong in that beautiful picture, and because of this, the Bible is hard to understand. Example: The Bible portrays a beautiful picture of the resurrection hope. Satan, right from the beginning told Eve a lie that she will not die. That lie has made its way right down to our day, the immortal soul. If we have an immortal soul then we have no need of a resurrection. Now take that piece out and the picture comes clear. There are many more pieces that don’t belong in the Bible and till these pieces are taken out we cannot and will never understand the Bible.

Peace!
Actually, it would be very easy to understand if you have a commentary when you read it. Catholics follow a 3 year reading cycle which includes commentaries for the daily readings. At the end of the cycle you would have read the entire Bible. If you are interested in this approach you can go to a parish near you. I am sure they will have it.
As someone also said, prayer should accompany the reading of the Bible. More than anything else it is a spiritual book so we should ask God to help us understand what we are going to read and thank him for the revelation which will surely come to you after each reading.
God bless

The bible is a story book and guide. Leave the twisted interpretations to the Christian right, and enjoy the stories. You can lead a moral life without getting some yo yo's interpretation of what a particular verse says. Terrorists interpretation of the Koran is wrong just as the Christian right's interpretation is wrong and usually self serving. (Insert Oscar Meyer song) I strongly believe in God but do not trust the Jimmy Swaggarts of the world.

It's not hard to understand. There are a couple of instances where God commanded the prophets to "seal up the book and go your way", meaning that there would be a time in which a generation would be born that would be wise enough to understand and interpret God's Word., and that the generation the prophets lived in wouldn't have to understand, simply because it would've caused a great deal of confusion!

There are any number of programs on TV these days that teach about the Bible. I personally recommend Fred Price, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Leroy Thompson, Kenneth Hagin, Jr.,
Jerry Savelle, Gregory Dickow, and Myles Munroe.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But you need someone who has the understanding to teach you.Remember the account of the Ethopian Eunuch?Peter asked him if he understood what he was reading(from the scroll of Isaiah) and the Eunuch replied "How could I without someone to teach me?
Jehovah's Witnesses offer free home bible studies. They have a thorough and accurate understanding of the Holy Scriptures. Why not go along to your nearest Kingdom Hall and ask.Someone would be only too happy to assist you.

There are many Bibles out there that are easier to read. I find the King James version hard for me yet my daughter loves it. Go to a Christian book store and find one that is easier to read for yourself and they can help you find one. personally I like the new living translation

It was written by the Almighty. It was written for all people, and for all time. And it is misinterpreted by many people for their own purposes. Why would you expect it to be on an elementary level?
