How does software piracy affect individuals and businesses?

businesses do not get a reimbursement and stop making profits, since they don't get paid for selling their products, for which they spent a lot of money and time (which, again, equals money) to develop. this may lead to financial problems that might make their next project less good, due to the lack of money, or even bigger financial problems that might lead them to shut down.
if those companies shut down, the individuals will not be able to get some nice software from them anymore ;)
plus, an individual could face a BIG fine if he gets caught.

Like CD piracy in the music industry, it saves money for the buyers but it makes the businesses & firms' sales go down, because only a few buy original copies from them.

Well it is the software in which you downloaded it into your computer---How save is your computer. You can use software without downloading into your computer. Just use it then put in a safe if it really worries you or your work.
