I also have a feeling of pins and needles in my hand sometimes and find mobility of my arm is limited. Had anti-inflammitory pills which did no good. The pain is in my upper arm halfway between my shoulder and my elbow. Anyone got any ideas....
I'm 55 and relatively fit, I run regularly and I'm not overweight or a smoker.

It sounds like your ulnar nerve is getting pinched. It can be pinched in the neck or at the elbow. I would guess yours is at the elbow given your history. Contact your doctor for EMG/ NCS (electromyogram/ nerve conduction studies), and this will isolate the point of blockage and then determine the next best person for you to see (i.e. neurosurgeon for ulnar nerve release)

Go see a doctor and have him do some testing. such as an MRI. Good luck to you. I just had a similar situation last July I had to have surgery for a rota-tor cuff repair. The worst experience of my life. Do some Internet research, very painful, however, the only way to correct the problem. The surgery was performed in July and I am just now recovering to the point of being able to use my arm as before. I had no idea it was that bad, a simple tear in the muscle of the shoulder. Good luck and please have this looked at soon. Scar tissue developed on my shoulder inside and made the issue much worse. The original injury was in November of last year, and I thought it was just a sprain or a pull. Good luck and God bless****

I agree that it would be related to your nerves. You may have a nerve which travels through your shoulder down your arm being pinched, which would cause a sharp pain when you make certain movements ...disrupted nerves can also result in tingling feelings and loss of feeling/numbness at the nerve endings like you describe. Have it checked by a doctor or physio so that it does not become worse.
You may also have strained a ligament/ tendon where the deltoid muscle insterts into your arm in the area where you describe, this would cause a pain when you reach towards your back as in undoing your bra. In fact, by having injured that shoulder muscle, you could have caused some sort of imbalance/impingement in your shoulder that would have pinched your nerve

It's most likely a pinched nerve, or, as I recently found out, an inflamed tendon. Mine was caused by sleeping on my arm oddly. I wore a splint for a few days, and took some advil. The issue was gone in about 4 days. I did go to the doc first though and had it checked out - the pins and needles feeling in my hand concerned me. They ran xrays on my arm and wrist, looking for arthritis. Luckily that came back fine.

Sometimes i sleep with my arm just above my head. That is when i get a pain like you are describing now. It also happens when i sleep on my arm which i often do, i don't ever have my hands in the open , always covered. You probably pulled a muscle or slept whith your arm the wrong way, but if it worry's you see your DR, not that it is easy to get to see them lately.

If the pain is in your right arm this could be a problem with your heart. Don't worry too much but I'd definately go and get it checked out, to be on the safe side.

Firstly, go back to your doctor and explain your situation. Insist on a thorough examination if needed. In the meantime, you should strap your bra at the front of you then move it to your back. When you take it off, ask your husband to help you (I'm sure he'll be very keen to do it for you)!

You probably have a trapped nerve which is hard to get rid of. my arm did the same thing a few years back and it still hurts now and my back has a trpped nerve and is difficult for me sometimes as it keeps reapearing. its annoying but the mor u try to forget the more it will go away babes honest.xx

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.
