I know around here there are classes that you can sign up for. They teach you what to do in emergencies and basic child care. They also give you ideas on activities to keep the children entertained and I believe also teach CPR. Call your local Health Dept. or YMCA and see if they offer them.

Some places offer babysitter courses so you can get a certificate. Try the YWCA or Red Cross.

Check or call your areas/cities Community Ed classes- they usually offer babysitting classes and certificates- along with CPR classes. Those are a great place to start and parents will really respect that you took the time to go to the classes and learn things.
