I have seen things like Trail Mix, and dried fruit, but both of these are high in fat and sugar, which defeats the purpose of "healthy". I was told that too much of these can have a laxative effect too! Is there anything I can make myself?

You're best bet is a good quality protein bar. It depends on your goals, but I would say one with 3-4 carbohydrates 20-30 grams of protein 1g fat. They also make these healthy crackers you can put organic peanut butter on, but the peanut butter needs to be refrigerated, I'm sure an ice pack would work.

I would also check at a heath food store and look at foods that you find appealing. Take the appealing foods and take a look at the back of the box and the serving size. Decide if it will work. I think it's better to choose a food you'll like that's healthy than one you can't stand eating. Good Luck!

***Ok I had to add this people gave you ideas like pretzels, cereal, etc... Those are processed goods and can cause insulin spikes which will result in weight gain. I'm not saying pretzels and cereal are bad for you it depends on your goals. If you go with ceral go with KASHI. And I agree with you 100% dried fruit and trail mix are way too high in sugar.***

You can make like a snack mix with pretzels, rice chex cereal, raisins, nuts,...anything you lke. You put whatever seasoning you like and bake for a few minutes. I think most people use alittle seasoned salt, or you can check on the internet for what else you can use. Go to allrecipes.com and type in snack mix.

nuts (high in protein and omega fats), especially brazilian which is high in selenium. Should you choose dried fruit, try using dried blueberries (high in antioxidants) and coconut (best with almonds...yummm.) Do not expose nuts in heat too much because its fat might oxidize.
