Your point is quite valid. Atheists do not need to be swearing to the truth on the Bible -- they should take the civil law approach and affirm the truth. Likewise, Muslims could do the same or swear to testify in truth on The Koran.
The courts in the United States do not require that a person place their hand on the Bible and swear truthfulness prior to testimony in their proceedings.
I would think that other countries would recognize that this is not always the most appropriate action as well.
I think that the notion of swearing on The Bible stems from the fact that some countries such as the United States are based on the tenets of Christianity and derive many of their laws from religious tenets.

An atheist does no longer rather have the ability to swear on some thing they have not have been given self perception in. it rather is a typical fake impact held by utilising utilising individuals who don't comprehend what being an atheist is. Many Christian fundamentalists wrongly have self perception that if a guy or woman would not have self perception indoors the Christian god that they are unfastened to commit crimes. The regulation prevents people from committing crimes, no longer the Christian god. In court docket docket, there are ideas for individuals who do no longer prefer to swear on a image of fundamentalist Christianity, such with the aid of actuality the King James version of the Bible the u . s . isn't a Christian u . s ., and it incredibly is no longer a call for to be a Christian with the point to be an American citizen. the form of the u . s . is the very maximum suitable regulation of the land and ensures that the policies in this u . s . would desire to be the comparable for each guy or woman, no longer purely Christians.

It makes no different if anyone places their hand on the Bible they can still lie. If they are found lying if they affirmed to tell the truth they can still be prosecuted for breaking an oath whether they had their hand on the Bible or not. It is only a tradition. Many people lie under oath whether Christian or not. BB

Even a devout Christian doesn't become magically compelled to tell the truth just by swearing on a Bible. It's just a little ritual, and affects everybody equally - if you lie under oath, you're guilty of perjury, no matter what religion you are.

US courts no longer use the Bible to swear people in. Barack Obama was sworn into congress using a Koran.

* I have been in many court settings and have been a defendant a time or to and have been a witness and serve on jury duty and I have never seen a bile in court. I have only been asked " do you swear or affirm to tell the truth, and oly the truth?"
that has been my experience. I have only seen the bible produced on television and movies. I am not saying they don't but that has been my experience.*

Christians shouldn't be putting their hand on the Bible and swearing, either. Jesus advised us not to in the Sermon on the Mount.
I just don't think it's worth making a big deal out of it since there's no harm in it and I plan to tell the truth, anyway.

It is just more ritualistic nonsense.
I would refuse to touch a christian bible to go against what it teaches and swear on it.

It does no good I would imagine. (it's Koran or Q'uran, apology noted).
In fact I don't think God would approve of anybody swearing on the Bible, He told us to "make your yeses "yes" and your no's "no"" do not swear on anything.
