To clarify, is there a special brand that does lactic-cultured butter?, or is all European butter made this way?, meaning that it would be any butter on the supermaket shelf.

No. French butter, in order to be considered cultured, must be exposed to a specific set of experiences set forth by the conseil cultivé de beurre ("cultured butter council"), including, but not limited to a certain number of hours at the French Opera, reading experiences in French literature, and a certain number of hours at a Musée français d'art (French art museum).

Only after satisfying these requirements can a butter officially call itself "Beurre cultivé français", or "French cultured butter".

Love T J's answer. lol I don't know about "cultured" but I do know that frech brands of butters vary in taste, fat content, ect because they pay very close attention to the breed of cows, the region they live in and strictly control the animals diet and environment. French butters imported to the US can taste far superior and unique to the region of origin--as well as very expensive! ;)
