No, that is a myth. Parents usually tell their kids that that will happen. But in reality the eyes of children are not fully developed so they will want to sit closer to the tv. It wont hurt their eyes.

Well you wont get square eyes, but it does put a strain on them focussing on something very close for so long. If you focus on something far away once every couple of minutes that will keep your eyes looking good.

If you watch TV from too close, you are sure to injure your eyes, pretty quickly...

no - it's just an old wive's tale
it will give you eyestrain and maybe a headache though
if you need to be too close to the tv i would suggest you go to the optician in case you need glasses
