I looked up pranayam from your other answer, and the breathing technique is one I use.
I got off the cane and have the best relief from acupuncture.
My accupuncturist is in the Chicago area, she is also an RN. When I showed her my MRIs and explained the pain, we concentrated on the lower lumbar, and tailbone.
My pain shoots from the hip joint down to the foot.
It toke 2 visits for six weeks before I saw real improvement. The speed of recovery will depend on learning to breath and relax the muscles, so the procedure can work. In six weeks, I would fall asleep during it.
Then wow, what an improvement.
When I had no pain, I increased the phy therapy, quit the accupuncture, in 2 months it was back.
I go once a week now.
I'm trying to get an inversion table, I tried it and it toke some of the pressure off the hip area. I can't say it really works, until I get one. Trying ebay.
I am 48 and my sciatica became unbearable after an auto accident and back injury.
Sorry, for your pain, how do you cope with the depression of dealing with it 10 yrs? You must be an a strong person.

Oh, I feel for you I had sciatica as a result of a slipped disc. It was the worst pain I've ever been in. I ended up having a microlumbar discectomy. I feel like a new woman. I don't know exactly what your talking about, but ice gave me a little relief.

I am 55 and a sciatica patient. I underwent accupuncture treatment. I do not have any problem since last 10 years. I also drink Noni herbal fruit juice which helped me a lot for the back pain.

Doing Utkatasana alone has done wonders to people who couldn't bend their knees or squat on the floor. Please learn it from a yoga guru to do it properly. Also, have a stomach wash before you start yoga. This is done by drinking 25 ml castor oil before going to bed. Drink only tender coconut or porridge the next day for the first two meals so that you won't strain your stomach). Avoid non-vegetarian food during that time for better results.
