no wildlife program would answer that because in the wild the two animals would never come into contact. Tigers live in india, lions in africa. OK they can swim, but not that well. There are instances of tigers and lions mating and producing either tions or ligers but this doesn't happen without human intervention. In the unlikely event that they did come into contact if it was a one to one fight my money would be on the tiger and they tend to be more aggressive, however tigers prefer to live along whereas lions live in packs so there is a good change the tiger would be outnumbered.

I'd say if a Tiger and a Lion had a fight that the Tiger would win.
Lions
It is said that a lion is the king of the jungle but how ever, the lion lives and hunts in the grasslands or scrub country they are not found in dense jungle.
Unlike most of the cats Lions live in groups, called prides apride normaly has about 12 cats in it normaly have 2 males 6 female and around 4 cubs (baby Lions).
Tigers
Tigers are big cats. Tigers live alone and hunt alone. Tigers are the best swimmers in the cat family and are good climbers too.

I think the tiger would win... I mean, if you were putting animals of roughly the same age against each other, and everything else was equal, so that it was a fair test. I heard that the tiger is the only great cat that can take down animals bigger than itself on its own. The lion hangs around in groups for protection and for hunting- you don't hear of tigers doing that... so, I vote for the tiger.
All a bit like a Roman gladiatorial spectacle really! Who would win, elephants or vikings? Now showing in a colliseum near you ;)

Tigers are larger than lions. Male tigers particularly are more aggressive. There are instances of Tigrons and Ligers where the species have interbred in zoos. In the wild it is unlikely they would meet. However there are Asiatic lions inhabiting regions that are also inhabited by tigers and there is a program trying to save wild Tigers by introducing them into Africa.
The answer in any case is the Tiger wins hands down No contest!

This has happened many time between the Asian Lion and the Tiger. There are actually a couple videos of it, The Lion killed the Tiger in both videos I saw. To me the whole question is sad as they are both incredible animals...
This comes from a hunter.

One on one, the tiger - assuming we're talking biggest and hardest of each.
Lions can weigh up to about 300kgs, but tigers can weigh up to 500kgs.
In reality, the two rarely meet and tigers are almost always solitary creatures, whereas lions are pack animals. The tiger would be outnumbered and would probably stand down. Both sides would be reluctant to enter such a battle as they could both be seriously injured in such a confrontation.
Interestingly, the largest known big cat is a crossbreed of the two - a "liger" It's a completely soppy fat b@st@rd and lives in capitivity.

The Siberian tiger is the biggest cat and is very powerful. I would say that it would overpower a female lion but could struggle against a male lion as its mane covers the neck - the vital attacking part that the tiger uses.

I think it depends on the situation.
I personally feel that the age and how exposed they are to the wild life. Comparing a tiger from Singapore zoo and a lion from the Africa jungle and those from other countries would have different outcomes.
