i downloaded some .avi movies yesterday, but when i watched them on windows media player, i can only hear the sound. why?

it's probably because those were encoded using DivX codec and you don't have divx codec installed.
To fix this you can download and install DivX Codec from the internet.
But i suggest using free codec packs like KLM codec pack or Storm codec pack.
Download KLM codec from:

it's bcos windows media player doesnot support avi file
so u can only hear the sound
u can try to:
1.download codecs for ur player
2.download other media player like vlc player
3.convert the avi file to mpeg /wmv file that windows media player supported
i suggest u total video converter

you media player version might be lacking some CODECs. download a free, complete Codec pack from majorgeeks.com and you'll be able to play nearly every video you download.
you might also want to try the Super C transcoder from erightsoft.com - its also free - you can play video and convert them to any other available format.

avi isnt really compatible wid windowz media player...!! i dint the same mistake....n then cudnt watch the movie..!!
wat i did is....i got the VLC software frm a frend..(u can even download it for free) n now i can watch every movie....AVI,MPEG,MP4,MOV...etc..!!
vlc is compatible wid everything....its the same as windowz media player..!!
ask me if u want to knw..wer 2 download it.

you cant whether you have version 11 you're able to desire to apply yet another media utility like interactual or digital or direct means dvd u might desire to good click on that cd and discover avi format then hit
