Is the argument about evolution versus creationism unique to the West? I'm interested to know what belief systems are taught in various parts of the world and by different religions concerning how the world started and humans came to exist. Here in Europe (and I think in the US) we are taught at school that the theory of evolution is correct though some people disagree with the theory and say everything was created by God. Is it the same where you live and do you have the same arguments, or is one theory accepted as correct?

It depends, I guess, on which country in Asia, since there are a lot of religions in this part of the globe. Asians are generally religious so the Theory of Creation is, in my opinion, more accepted here than the evolution. But we are still given the prerogative to believe in either of the two.

No. Of all the western countries, it's only the US that seems to have a problem. Most of Europe and East Asia see evolution as fact (as it should be). However, in other underdeveloped countries, creationism is accepted much more widely.

in the philippines, most schools are catholic institutions.. we have religion class from grade school up to college even.. even non christians have to take up the subject. (i remember when i was in elementary, we had to attend mass every friday, its part of the education)
the creation story is taught and the other creation stories are discussed too.. you can choose what you like to believe, if you dont believe in the creation story of God then its perfectly alright..wont affect your grade.

public schools dont have religion class though..

not just the west my friend, it is unique to the US.

In Europe and the rest of the world it is a total non-issue.
