I will often read electronic magazines or my favorite novel while in the washroom. But is it inappropriate to do so with the Bible? This is a serious question. Please no disrespectful comments.

Yes I have a Bible purchased by Zondervan for $6 that I use in the washroom, and another Bible when I study other places. But lately I have wondered about this.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law should not depart from your mouth, and you must in an undertone read in it day and night, in order that you may take care to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way successful and then you will act wisely.

To read in an undertone, would be to meditate. It is rewarding indeed to meditate on “the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:10) But in this busy life, when can we find time for meditation? How many of us actually get time ALONE to think? Abraham’s son Isaac “was out walking in order to meditate in the field at about the falling of evening.” (Genesis 24:63-67) The psalmist David ‘meditated on God during the night watches.’ (Psalm 63:6) We may study God’s Word and meditate on it in the morning, in the evening, at night—indeed, at ANY time.

I think it's a great way to fit Bible study into your life. Lets say you're a busy working mom, and you want to study the Bible. You go the bathroom 4 times a day, and decide to spend 5 minutes while you're in there reading the Bible. That's 20 minutes of Bible study a day, without even having to take much extra time out of your life. Then you have a half-hour soak in the bath in the evening, once the kids are in bed, but you're tired, and after you get outta the bath you want to drop straight to bed - well, say you need 15 minutes to wash and do your hair etc, the other 15 could be spent reading the Bible. Now you've done 35 minutes Bible study, in time you would otherwise have spent just sitting, it's ideal!

I don't think it's unholy, I think it shows that you're trying to take time out of your day and fit God into your life.

I'm 17, and i'm not a single mom, but if i'm tired or i've had a row or i'm stressed or just need time to think, I don't go to my bedroom, I go sit in the bathroom. It's quiet, no-one else will go in there while you're in there, and you can really think. And hey, you don't need to take time outta your thinking to go for a bathroom break! Keeping a Bible in there is a good way to look up scriptures etc during these times.

So I think you're doing a really great thing, keep at it!

Disposal of waste products is mentioned in the Old Testament, but I've found no mention of where it is appropriate to put your scriptures.

I know Catholics who won't allow a Bible on the floor, let alone in the toilet. But I don't think most Protestants (or even all Catholics) have a problem with it.

However, you better not take any of my books into the toilet. That is very bad hygiene, and it leaves germs... If you go to some of the big second hand book shops, they'll refuse books with bathroom bacteria on them (and with good reason).

Of course you can read the bible while sitting on the toilet. Just because you are relieving yourself, well that's a natural thing. I pray while I am lying in the tub. So if you feel like reading the bible on the toilet, hey there is nothing wrong with it.

It's not sinful, but it might be unhygienic. I'd suggest getting a cheap paperback edition that would be reserved for there, and leave the 'good' Bible elsewhere. Then if it gets dropped in the tub by mistake (or worse) you won't feel so bad about having to replace it.

It would not say in the Bible that it incredibly is. Jesus never suggested it the two. So, in case you employ the Bible as your source for outlining what's and is not a sin, then no, it does not be.

I wouldn't have thought God would mind where you read it, as long as you are reading it and use its lessons wisely to become a good person.
