this question is a topic that came up with my mom. growing up she always told me that guysa and girls can't be freinds without one starting to fall for the other. i disagreed with her, and life has proven her right so far. i don't want to believe this though...what do u think? can a boy and girl be really close friends without any complications or someone falling for the other?

sure they can

But I will admit that I've had many of the same problems you have had in this regard. People do begin to grow on you and before you know it you can get a major crush on someone. If this isn't what the other party wants then you can risk losing the friendship or making it awkward. I feel for you.

I also think a lot of this decreases with age and more experience with the opposite sex. I believe that and may suggest that I ain't the most experienced or laid back dude in the world.

Last, I think women are better at walking this tight rope than men are! By a long shot. Having girlfriends is one thing for me...but having a best, best, best friend that was a girl. I've had a lot of difficulties with that one on a few different occasions. It somehow always turned sexual at some point. Not that it always ruined our friendship or that I had bad/shallow intentions (or vice versa), but yes, it did kind of turn sexual at some point. If that happens, your best bet is to try and back away for a little bit until the situation becomes hormonally balanced again! Hope this helps.

Absolutely and I think it's a great thing to have friends of both sex.You get a more balanced outlook on life and on your own relationship.
I have 2 teenage boys who go to a co-ed school and they have friends of both sexes.I reckon that they will have a much better understanding of the opposite sex when they leave school than I had coming from an all boys school only to find all girls alien for a good while.
So mix with both-it's healthy great fun and positive

Do you have sisters? If you do, then you will know boys and girls can be close friends . Yes it sometimes happens that they end up faling in love which is okay and it sometimes happens that they just remain freinds and that is okay too but the main point here is that guys and girls can be close friends and is wonderful a experience.

Straight girls and straight guys? Sometimes they can but there's usually a sexual tension and one may develop sexual feelings for the other. All of my close friends are women and gay men. I do have some straight male friends but I keep it on a lower level. Like I don't talk on the phone with them everyday or hang out with them alot or talk really personally with them. I like to keep them just at a friendly level and not get too heavy or close so problems don't develop.

I'm so with you. I didn't want to believe it either. But for me as well, life has proven that this might be a true statement. It seems one or the other has more than friends feelings. Too bad huh.

Dick and Jane went out on the town in Reno. They were on their first date together. They had Lots of fun , even stayed the night. Dick and Jane have been living together as just friends, really no sex, for 9 years so far. Jane says yes, and even Dick will agree. guy and girl can be just really close friends.

i have this classmate in highschool and he has a group of close friends that many of them are girls. they chat with eachother, meet at malls and bars together, and invited to birthday parties. its just the same as having boys as your friend. i've had many close friends that are girls in the past too and treat you just like any other person they know. so it is not all the time that if a girl and boy are close friends that they fall in love with one another.

I have been friends with our "Best Man" from the wedding, since before the wedding. My husband to be was in the Forces and the "Best man" was just that. He always has been just like the brother I never had. Always there for me, then, and now. There has never ever been any romance, just sheer friendship and support always.

the closer you are the more dangerous is. sooner or later feelings will change and when things happen it will often mean things cant go back - a breaku for instance can cause major problems.

its great to have a close friend but personally i dont think its possible

Of course they can. Almost all my friends are guys (one i am erally close with and we have been friends 18 years). I dont really get on with girls .... too bitchy (no offense to the non-bitches!).

Of course you can just be friends. Me and my best friend have never fallen for each other! Just always been there to support each other
