You can't buy a US tank but you can get one loaned to you or you can buy one from a foreign country if that country bought the tank not got it through a loan like from the US. As for driving one on your own land that is perfectly legal even without a license. You must however stay on your land only. There is a new show coming to the military channel that features people who rebuild tanks for private use i would suggest you check it out.

Hello,
(ANS) As far as my understanding of the law goes, there is no reason you cannot buy & own a brand new military tank. There are no! laws against ownership per say.
The only obvious one is that you cannot drive the tank on the public highway without the required permissions & insurances (infact I dont think you are allowed to drive a tank on the public highway unless you are the MOD?). Driving a tank on a public highway might NOT be allowed you'd have to check on that as I'm not 100% sure.
**Goes without saying that if you were able to & did fire a tank round (munitions) then you'd definitely be in deep brown smelly stuff, not to mention the national news too? :-)
Dont know if thats of use?
Regards IR

Usually I don't answer questions like if aliens invade; who is better the SAS or the Green Berets; in a fight who would win Mother Theresa or the Pope but the answers here are so far out, I had to stop. You can buy ANY military vehicle made some like a fighter have their gun pod removed but you can buy one on the secondary market (Before you say no way, look at the Confederate Air Force-I know they had to change their name but to me they will always be CAF). There are groups who buy the vehicles and play soldier, rent them and are in many movies. The guns are not deactivated in fact in certain areas we set-up and shoot them. Come to Jamestown Virginia during the yearly reenactment of the Soldier and see us. God Bless You and The Southern People.

If you google the phrase 'drive a tank' there are dozens of companies out there who specialise in military vehicles/tanks for activity days.
So I'm guessing that it is perfectly legal on private land as there are lots already out there.

As long as all of the weapons systems have been permanently inhibited/stripped, then you can do what you want with it on your land (or someone elses land with their permission). It's like tractor driving. I was driving a tractor long before I was legally allowed to drive because it was on private land (a towing vehicle at a gliding school). I didn't go onto roads, so nobody cared.
I've always wanted to have a go at that myself!

Sounds bloody good fun. Shame you have to disable the weapons though. When you get one, can I have a go?
