You are absolutely spot-on. Unless you are a qualified psychiatrist and criminal profiler, the average person is unlikely to be able to spot a true psychopath, on-line or face to face and even then, only after spending time with her/him. (Unless they immediately attack you savagely, which is always a clue!)
I'm pretty sure Stuart Sutcliffe (known, I believe, as the Yorkshire Ripper) managed to give a jolly good impression of being an all-round good guy to his friends, his family, his boss and his colleagues, while popping out to commit savage murders - and then back in time for supper. Apart from conning all these people for a long time, he even conned the police through several interviews before he was arrested. Perhaps in the meantime he went to the club or the grocery store and offered to carry your shopping to your car.

It's usually easier to get a better read of someone face to face than by what someone types on a computer screen. Sure the guy you meet at the grocery store or club could be crazy that's why you drive separately and meet at a public place and get to know him. You never want to put yourself in a position where you're alone with someone you don't know very well.

I know what you mean. I've been on loads of internet dates and none of them were psychos. A lot of people are scared to try anything new or to do anything outside their comfort zone. The same people, if you asked them, would probably be scared to walk down the road at night on their own, scared to go into a pub on their own.
However, I suppose that statistically maybe you have more chance of meeting a psycho online simply because you talk to more people online than you would in a bar or library?

Where people meet shows their interest.
I'd think if a guy came up to me at a fitness club, he liked how I looked in my work out outfit, and I look fit. And he wants to keep fit as I do.
If I meet a guy at a night club or a bar with his mates, he would likely to be drunk most weekends.
If I meet a guy at a cafe, I would know he likes to spend killing his time drinking coffee and reading, like I would.
So those are the differences...
But I totally agree, there is same danger in any circumstance in meeting a person in public without introduction from anyone.
I've took those risks, and been out with several guys I've met online. I have the most gorgeous and honest boyfriend I've ever had, who I've met online!
Good luck

haha, well if he's at the library, it's already saying something, that he CAN be slightly intellectual. i mean what idiot would go to the library to look for pretty girls. but online you never know because everyone has access to the internet therefore you are exposed to many more dangerous people than you would be originally exposed to in public depending on the place. sooooo there you have it, its highly unlikely to meet someone really pyscho in the library

I don't think that at all. You can meet a pyscho anywhere not just on the internet.
