Bless you for your courage brother. One story that brings tears to my eyes and is understandable is the story of the Good samaritan in Luke verse 30-35. Another is Noah's Ark in Genesis verse 6:13-9:17. Moses leading the people would be a good one to tell for a week, with a cliffhanger each night at one of the miracles, thats in Exodus - beginning to end.Sing songs with your child(Yes Jesus Loves me, Father Abraham-tell him about that story to)and pray before you do anytihng. My 2 year old son loves to pray before dinner and a little while in the morning. Anything that you do decide is truly wonderful! Don't be afraid to tell your child about it though because giving them wisdom of our creator is better than anything you can teach him. The Lord didn't sugar coat with us, and I don't think we were meant to sugar coat for our kids. They need to know about the good and evil in this world. Man it is so good that you are doing this and I know that I'm not the only one teaching my son the True Word. (Also, it is not violent to me it is judgement. Only fools think otherwise.) Bible storis are okay but it leaves out to much that is important, plus the says: Revelation 22:19
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
KJV
Food for thought: You are a blessing and great Dad to teach your child about the Creator.
Deuteronomy 4:10
10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
KJV

Why not use the story book bible as a reference, and just read the actual story from the real bible? Still, all stories would probably require some explanation, (even for adults) but your idea is definitley a good one, it is good for the child to see the whole thing and understand that there are some things left up to question and maybe for them to later figure out on their own. .

I don't really think any toddler can understand Bible stories that are read directly from the Bible, its hard for some adults. I think your best bet would be to get a good story book, one that has the real facts according to the Bible, and as you read, just put in the facts that you believe are revelant to the said story..
I teach Sunday School, and my kids are pre-school and kindergarten, and you can not hold their attention unless it is something they can relate to on their level.
I do applaud your efforts though.

why don't you like the children's bibles? i think you can read from the bible to them but they will not get it, they have some incredible children's bibles out now, they are not "storybook" you must do some shopping around, try a christian store, even if you are not christian they have a wide variety of bibles for all ages and all beliefs, very spot on if you will, nice to hear you reading to your child

you might read the genesis chapter and the story of Adam and Eve, but you need to be careful about the incest issues there which was necessary to create the 3rd generation of humans.
