It's very far. You have to take the plane if you want to arrive at destination quickly. I did it when touring China, which is in fact a beautiful country.

Assuming you're talking about the Guilin in Bretagne, France then a great circle (the most direct route across the globe) would give you a distance of 5316.66 miles. You'd pass through The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, clip the coast of Estonia, spend ages going through nearly the entire length of Russia, before passing through Mongolia and finally China. Hope this helps.

It's more than 1000 miles in a straight line, probably 1500 by train.

In 2003 I arrived in Guilin from Guangzhou (Canton), took one look at it and immediately took a bus from the train station yard to Yangshuo, 70km to the south, on the same river, the Li Jiang.

Guilin is big (1 500 000 inhabitants) and full of wealthy tourists on package tours, many of them Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese. It's full of hasslers and rip-off merchants.

Yangshuo is a backpacker haven with only 30 000 people in the centre of the most beautiful part of the karst limestone scenery Guilin is famous for. Go there instead!
