Halal on meat means it can be eaten by a Muslim. Muslims cannot eat things that are Non-Halal. Pork and alcohol are Non-Halal and it has something to do with the way the food product is being process. Of course it's available in the U.S....you have muslim people there don't you. I heard Halal meat is just a little bit more expensive.

as above .
The animals must have been slaughtered in a humane way-specific rules are present. Interestingly, no animal that has fallen down but not dead yet is to be slaughtered and eaten- exactly what was found to be a cause of spreading bovine spogiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease)...Also notable is that in extreme cases, they may eat any of the forbidden items ie starvation/forcing/medication etc without any repercussions. Also, they may eat any allowable food prepared/sold by what they call the "people of the book"(christian or Jewish, regarded as having been given true divine books prior to Islam) without nitpicking on how it was slaughtered. They dont eat from a any animal slaughtered for another god by those who believe in amny gods or an animal slaughtered to "pacify evil spirits" etc
