Feinstein introduced one to legalize 1.5 million agricultural workers, it is called Ag Jobs and it has already been introduced in the Senate.

Isaakson introduced a different one which would secure the border first, then when that was declared secure would give temporary working visas to screened people here, but they would get no special 'path' to anything else, they would have to go through normal channels. As Isaakson points out 'we already have a path to citizenship'.

Look with the presidential election coming up in 2008 I would not think immigration reform would not be acted on for at least 6 years. President Bush is a lame duck president serving out his term with a democratic senate and congress. They are not going to let him pass an amnesty bill. Just are not going to let him do it. There are too many illegals now, and the American public is not going to put up with amnesty bill. If a democrat gets elected president, it will take at least two years while they are in a four year term, and then it is not guarantee that they will change any laws. No amnesty is is the near foreseeable future. It is just too hot of a political issue and the american people are not going to let illegals get a free ride while a lot of other immigrants went through the legal process. Just is not going to happen.

we wont see it until after the 2008 election. The issue is too polarizing, but after the democrats win.. which they probably will, we will see an amnesty.

Pres Bush is no strong border guy so he wont push for anything to curb illegals either. So we who are opposed to Illegal immigration have no national leader.

if there is a god we'll never have amnesty again, at this stage i can't be sold on a guest worker program unless every single illegal already here is permanently ineligible for it.
