when i start cold i get a hesitation or skip at moderate acceleration but only when there is no significant load on the engine.i have new wires , plugs gas line filter. if i take off fast there is no skip.

I used to have this problem with my '95 wrangler. Changed out my distributor and rotor (total about $15) and it runs perfectly fine now. The points inside the distributor wear down after a while, and pretty much lessens the amount of spark you get. It's easy to change out too. Just remember the order your wires are attached, and lable them if necessary so they go back in the same place. The rotor has a grove in it so it only goes one way.

Might be your mass air flow sensor, it tells the computer air temp and adjusts you engine to what it reads...it may be bad but not bad enough to set off the check engine light.

replace the rotor and distributor cap
