focussing on an imaginary after life is useless. You should focus on the now life. When you are treating the people you meet in you life with kindness and respect, you can feel saved. Be good be nice

If you are a christian and have accepted Christ, than the verse from 1 John 5:11-12 assured us of salvation. Memorise it.Review it when the thought of not being saved arise again. Satan wants to cast doubts on young Christians by raising questions like those you mentioned.

No the salvation prayer is not enough. The oldest church since Christ is the Holy Roman Catholic Church which is the ark of salvation.
Pope Leo XII : Ubi Primum (#14), May 5, 1824
"It is impossible for the most true God, who is truth itself, the best-the wisest provider, and the rewarder of good men, to approve all sects who profess false teachings, which are often inconsistent with one another and contradictory, and to confer eternal rewards on their members. By divine faith we hold "One Faith, One Lord, One Baptism", this is why we profess there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church."

If you have accepted Christ as your saviour, and you try your best to follow the beliefs of your church, then you are saved. Some churches believe that, unless you are baptized, you aren't saved - something to consider. It's not necessarily an "instantaneous feeling," though some people might have that - it might be something you will grow into. If you feel in your heart that yes, you will go to Heaven when you die, then you are most likely going to.

I will pray for you to gain assurance as I'm sure others will as well.
When you are saved you should know. But if you said the prayer & truely meant it you are saved, but you still need to continually put God first in your life. It's about putting your trust in Jesus to save you, it isn't all about the words we say, it is our belief that God is good & He will save us. Draw nearer to God ask for guidance, obey His will, but most importantly get to know Him by reading His word, reading about Him, & talking to Him always.
I have been a christian now for a bit over a year now & I have struggled with this as well. I would suggest you look to Gods Grace. I found Max Lucado books helped me, they are quite easy to read.
The Chronicles of the Cross was the first christian book I read & it helped me understand who God really is & what He did, & why. I would strongly recommend it. Get to now who God really is for yourself, not through others.

My Friend,
I value your question...However I can only answer you from a purely traditional and apostolic christian doctrine and teaching.
The Lord Jesus Christ had set a few conditions to accept the salvation that He graced all of mankind:
- Believe and faith
- Baptism "Unless one is born again of water and spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven"
- Communion and partaking from his body and blood "he who eats my body and drinks my blood has eternal life...abides in me and I in him..."
- Finally...now that you have attained salvation, you have to struggle to maintain it by keeping away from sin, keping close to your sacrements...etc.
Now, I know many denomination will have differing views on this, but as I said, this is speaking from a PURELY traditional doctrine, as was passed from the Apostolic fathers 2000 years ago. Such doctrines and practices are found in the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
I hope this helps...God bless.

once you have been saved you are really saved because God does not take what He has given...
salvation cannot be based on human feelings and emotions because salvation is not from man but from God...
therefore do not worry about feeling unsaved...

Being saved has nothing to do with your feelings. It has everything to do with faith. You are saved by what you believe, not what you feel. Feelings can change like the wind. "The heart is deceitful above all things."
What does it mean to be a born again Christian? The classic passage from the Bible that answers this question is John 3:1-21. The Lord Jesus Christ is talking to Nicodemus, a prominent Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin (a ruler of the Jews). Nicodemus had come to Jesus at night. Nicodemus had questions to ask Jesus.
As Jesus talked with Nicodemus, He said "...Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again...." (John 3:3-7).
The phrase "born again" literally means "born from above." Nicodemus had a real need. He needed a change of his heart--a spiritual transformation. New birth, being born again, is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the person who believes (2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:3; 1 John 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1-4, 18). John 1:12,13 indicates that "born again" also carries the idea "to become children of God" through trust in the name of Jesus Christ.
The question logically comes, "Why does a person need to be born again?" The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:1 says, "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins..." To the Romans in Romans 3:23, the Apostle wrote, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." So, a person needs to be born again in order to have their sins forgiven and have a relationship with God.
How does that come to be? Ephesians 2:8,9 states, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast." When one is "saved," he/she has been born again, spiritually renewed, and is now a child of God by right of new birth. Trusting in Jesus Christ, the One who paid the penalty of sin when He died on the cross, is what it means to be "born again" spiritually. "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation..." (2 Corinthians 5:17a).
If you have never trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, will you consider the prompting of the Holy Spirit as He speaks to your heart? You need to be born again. Will you pray the prayer of repentance and become a new creation in Christ, today? "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe on His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:12-13).

Some will try to add to it and make things confusing, but...
If you have acknowledged you are a sinner (and thus in need of a Savior), truly believe in your heart that Jesus shed His blood to pay the penalty for your sins, that God raised Him from the dead, and have confessed Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are saved. Salvation is a gift from God. It cannot be earned or snatched away. And, contrary to what others have said, yes we can be sure of our salvation because we have been sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). I trust God's word.
To put your mind at ease, this is what the Bible says about salvation:
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." -Romans 10:9-10
"He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.'" -Acts 16:30-31
"Then they asked him, 'What must we do to do the works God requires?' Jesus answered, 'The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.' -John 6:28-29 (Good works do not save us)
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." -Ephesians 2:8-9
"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having BELIEVED, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory." -Ephesians 1:13-14
Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand." -John 10:27-29
----------
Now, to grow in your relationship with God, you should read your Bible (I read the NIV because it is easier for me to understand) and put its teachings into practice, pray to God, and fellowship with other believers. But be very prayerful and careful in your selection of a church because not all groups that claim to be Christian truly are. Some teach false doctrine. Look for a church that is grounded in Biblical truth.
-----EDIT-----
In response to Catholicst's post, implying that you must belong to the Catholic Church in order to be saved, I say hogwash! I stand behind the scriptures posted above. The Bible is God's word, and God does not lie. I will believe what the scriptures say regarding salvation, not what the Catholic Church has ADDED to scripture.
"Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar." -Proverbs 30:6
Salvation is found in Christ alone, not through the Catholic Church!

If you have repented, asked for forgiveness, and accepted Jesus Christ into your heart, then you are saved. Prayer is always a good way to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Have faith.
