I have tried a cheapish one in the past but found that, when everything was plugged in, the quality of the picture was affected to an unsatisfactory rate. Are the more expensive ones better...I think Monster cables do one for around £25...or is this just a bi-product of the device??

monster are slightly better quality, but normally only on high end equipment. you dont normally get problems with scart adapters. you may just have a faulty one. Argos give a 16 day moneyback guarantee so if you tried a new one and it didn't help you haven't lost anything.
