Any suggestions as to an interesting single-engined, propellor-driven aircraft that might be fun to get a signoff on? I've thought of ducks and taildraggers...any others?

By obtaining a 'signoff' in an aircraft, you would satisfy the BFR. No certified instructor is going to sign your flight log without assuring himself you're a capable pilot in the type he's initialling!

I would definitely suggest that you get your sign-off in a taildragger - they are a lot of fun, but will require more the a BFR to get used to landing the aircraft. We had a Citabria on the line at the flight school I used to work at and everyone that flew it loved it!

In Australia at least, getting a signoff on an aircraft does not automatically satisfy your BFR requirement. It depends on the instructors grade rating and also if you are getting a NEW endorsement/rating that you didnt have. eg tailwheel, CSU ,retract , night VFR, IFR etc. If I fly a Piper Warrior PA28 and get signed off on an equivalent Cessna and I havent earned a new rating/endorsement or the instructor is not a grade 2 or above I still have to do a BFR.
