Man, there are any number of possible reasons why he did this.
Here are some.
1. He thinks you're a fool.
2. He is a fool and thinks it's real.
3. He is desperate to impress you.
4. He doesn't understand what the big deal is--it looks pretty, right?
If you can truly say to him, without resentment, "I love you and I don't need a flashy ring to prove anything to the world. I'd rather have no diamond at all than a fake one that sends the wrong message about our relationship." then maybe you could have a little talk. If, on the other hand, this stirs up memories of all those other times he's been all show, no substance, etc., you might want to think twice about marrying this guy.

Wow I'm sorry. First of all, are you 100% sure it's fake? Does he even know? Once you get to the bottom of that, I would confront him. If it's a money issue, explain you didn't need an expensive ring to know he loves you and try to get his side of the story. Of course you don't want to seem materialistic, but the fact that he lied about something like that could be a red flag. Only you can decide that though. Good luck.

Four carats? WOW.... unless he's incredibly wealthy, its pretty easy to assume its fake to begin with. Did he tell you it was real and hope you wouldn't know? Did he tell you its a real 4 carat stone... which would make it an outright lie.
How did you find it out was fake? Did you have it appraised?
If he will lie about something like this... he will lie about anything.

it shouldnt matter if it is fake or not. Just tell him you found out it was fake and it doesnt matter, all the ring represents is that u are an engaged woman. So who cares if it is fake, materialistic items shouldnt matter as long as the love is real as it can be.

DO YOU LOVE HIM OR THE RING? Just answer that question and you'll have your answer. Most likely he just didn't want to disappoint you.
