I had a root canal about 5 years ago and spent a bunch of money on a crown. Now that tooth is hurting really bad at night. The thing is, I had a root canal there before they put the crown in. So if there are no roots on my tooth why does it hurt so bad - and only at night?

most likely, there is a recurrence of infection. Exacerbation occurs when the immunity levels are low.

You are likely sleeping with your mouth open and breathing cold air over your teeth. This can sensitize the area and cause pain. If the root canal is done correctly there should be no pain. See a dentist and they can perform a pulp test to see if any root nerve remains alive.

I think if your busy during the day you don't notice pain because your mind is concentrating on other things. When you relax and your sub conscious is clear that's when you start to notice that it hurts. Get your self to the dentist

You should really go see your dentist. Pain is an indication that there is a problem. You should not have bad pain at night. Have it taken care of soon.

You sound like you might have infection in the gum in that tooth socket.

Mouth wash with hydrogen peroxide. It will seep down into the gums and heal the infection.

Pain always increases when you are relaxed. Sometimes it can be scary. I really believe you should see a dentist, ASAP.
