if sour gummy worms and the like are coated in lots of sugar, what makes them sour?

The sugar coating is mixed with ascorbic acid and it gives it the sour taste that makes you pucker. Same as lemonheads and cry-babies, etc..

I personally cannot eat sour candies cause it hurts the inside of my mouth and makes my tongue skin peel off.

I thought that the suger was sour. i resently ate the bit left at the end and it was sour as!!!
