In many cases you should
Well, depends on if you have an easy return or not.
and it also depends on whos doing it.
If its just a 1040 EZ or even the long 1040, where the person only has one or two jobs, and is taking the basic deductions, yeah youll know.
Now, thats alot different from a homeowner with a home based business trying to stretch the limits of what is and isnt tax deductable or what credits he applies for.
Also, it depends on the type of job you have. A family member worked as a waitress and didnt keep accurate records of her tips. Well, they came down hard on her, made her repay 2000 dollars.
But for your everyday jobs that youhave a w-2 for, with no dependants, or as long as both parents arent trying to use the same child as deduction, it is pretty much cut and dry.
Youll know as soon as you do them

Yes. When you file, the amount you get back or have to pay will be on the form you file.

If you complete the entire tax return, you will know immediately how much you owe or how much you have overpaid (refund).
