you shouldn't fit a cu board above a gas hob if fitting an extractor the required height should be 750mm to bottom of extractor 650mm over an electric hob

I'm not sure if theres a difference in the UK but in the states the standard height of base cabinets and appliances is 36 inches off the floor. 18 inches off the countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinet. usually the manufacture of appliances provides specifications for the appliances where as the builder can allow for there installation

Wow,that is really spooky.An hour ago,for some reason,I was looking in my reference book.I was reading the required heights of kitchen counters and cupboards! and because of that strange occurrence,I have an answer for you. "Standard counter top height 3ft. Lowest shelf height 1ft.6". Optimum shelf height 3 ft. Maximum shelf height 3ft.6". This is really,really weird. Bye.

Here in the US the fire code is that there must be 30" between the heating surface of a stove or range and the "unprotected surface" of a cabinet above it. A range hood/fan or ove- the-range-microwave can be mounted under this cabinet because they are "protected" surfaces.
